Courtney Amphavanna is the BDC Manager at 802 Toyota. She is also involved in many of the 802 Cars community events and orchestrates several fundraisers to raise money for events that 802 Cars sponsors. Read our Q & A with Courtney below to learn about her involvement in local community events!

Relay for Life PotluckQ. Which 802 Cars community events are you involved in?
A. I have participated in several different community events that the 802 Cars team have sponsored. Some of the most memorable are the Pet Adoption events, as well as the Walk for Animals – which both benefit the Central Vermont Humane Society. (I even adopted my little big cat Maximus from one of the events.)

I am also a big supporter of the American Cancer Society’s Central Vermont Relay for Life, which I do in honor of my father who passed away from cancer in 2005.

Also, the family and I help Green Up Vermont every year, whether down here in Berlin at the Twin City Subaru drop off location or at home in Colchester. I think that it is super important to help keep the world a clean place for future generations.

Q. Which community event means the most to you and why?IMG_8934
A. My favorite community event that 802 Cars supports is the American Cancer Society’s Central Vermont Relay for Life. I lost my father to cancer in 2005, so being able to support such a great cause, in his honor and with the 802 Cars Cruisaders team behind me really means a lot.

Q. Why is supporting the community important to you?
A. Living in the small communities that make up Vermont, where you get to know most of your neighbors, it is such a feeling of accomplishment when you are able to give back to them – even in small ways. Vermonters are very much one big family and I’m grateful to be a part of that. So showing my support by participating in community events is the least that I could do.

Q. What kind of fundraisers do you take part in to raise awareness and funds for the organization(s)?

A. I try to take part in as many fundraisers as I am able to. I help organize a potluck luncheon on Fridays for my co-workers where we give all proceeds to one of these three charities each week – The Jeremy R. Williams ALS Golf Classic, the Central Vermont Relay for Life or the CVHC Walk for Animals. We raise up to $250 at each of these potlucks, which is fantastic! My son is also signed up for the King of the Wing challenge, where together our fundraising efforts will benefit the Central Vermont Relay for Life (while he gets to eat as many chicken wings as possible! – Go Chris!)

Q. Why do you think the local community should also be involved in events such as the Relay for Life, Walk for Animals, Jeremy R. Williams ALS Golf Classic?
A. I think that it is important for the community to take part in events like the Relay, the Walk for Animals or the ALS Golf Tournament because we all know someone who has been affected by tragedy. Whether it’s losing a friend or loved one to Cancer or ALS, or finding a best friend in a time of need from the Humane Society – this stuff touches us all. 802 Cars has experienced this all as well. We have lost 3 team members to cancer over the past few years, with other team members still fighting, not to mention family and friends who have suffered. We have watched first hand as one of our friends and co-workers lost his son to ALS. But, we have also watched the community come together to offer support in these times of need and that is what keeps us all going. It’s important to be involved because we need each other.

Q. Why do you think people should buy their vehicles from 802 Toyota?
A. I think that customers should choose 802 Toyota because it’s their neighbors that work here. We are real people, real Vermonters, who will work hard for our community. That shows not only in our Community Event sponsorship’s but in our sales and service quality as well.
